Kilbrittain National School has great student, parent and community involvement in the ASF process and in the everyday events of the school. We set up our Active School Committee back at the start of the year, with an overwhelming number of students wishing to be involved. The committee was decided on with two students from each class from 2nd-6th class. It is really important that the pupils are given a voice and have their say in the implementation of the flag.
We display all our active information on our Active Schools board and we especially like to praise our students when they achieve something outside of school, whether it be a big or small achievement. Any achievement the children have completed we display on our Wall of Fame. We also inform the school of upcoming events that the ASC have decided upon.
Our suggestion box is in the corridor outside the office. We encourage all children to put in any suggestions they have for the Active School Committee. Once a month the ASC meets and we go through the suggestions, discuss them and decide whether to go ahead with them or not.
We are in constant communication with our local clubs and societies, such as Bandon Rugby, Kilbrittain GAA, Scouts, and our Irish dancing teacher are constantly working with us in the promotion of sports and the arts. We are always looking to seek new partnerships to expand and develop our students growing passion for extracurricular activities. We have parents involved in coaching / organising all sorts of events throughout the year from hurling matches / tournaments, training, and even coming in for show and tell. We are very lucky to have such an enthusiastic and supportive community.
Our active committee completed a whole school survey on what sports and activities that we do outside of school. We are so lucky to have so many students completing in and taking part in a wide range of sports, clubs and societies. It is fantastic to see and hear all the success that our students are having outside of school. Our ‘’Wall of Fame’’ Has inspired many others from our school to actively take part and take up new activities outside of school. Well done to all.
